The Cupertino Based company has scrapped the Apple car project after 10 years in development according to Mark Gurman. Employees from the project have moved toward generative AI teams.
This comes after WWDC 2022 where Apple unveiled the next generation of Carplay, with cars supporting such a feature coming in 2023. So far only Porsche and Aston Martin have announced cars that will support this feature.
A new Standard?
Possibly Apple is trying to become the standard operating system for cars – much like how windows is the default operating system for most computers in the world. This would be interesting as the only successful American car companies have been Ford and Tesla. With Apple scrapping the proposed apple car this would mean that they have full faith in the Apple Vision Pro, a product only available in the United States of America.
