Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and several other cabinet Ministers such as Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Angela Rayner, Deputy Prime Minister have admitted to accepting high-value clothing freebies from party donors like Lord Alli. Starmer admitted that he accepted clothes and other fashion items valued at over £18,000. Furthermore, Angela Rayner and former Ilford South MP Sam Tarry stayed, for 5 days, in Lord Alli’s, £2 million Manhattan apartment, according to the Sunday Times, over New Years.

Who is Lord Alli?
These headline donations have come from Lord Waheed Alli, a gay Muslim and businessman, having found his wealth in investment banking, during the 1980s, and serving in executive positions in television companies that produced shows for Channel 4. The Guardian reported that Lord Alli donated to the Labour Party approximately £500,000, and had also personally donated over £50,000 to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The Times reported that Lord Alli had been given unrestricted entry to 10 Downing Street, unusual for those not working in the Prime Minister’s Office.
At first, these donations were not properly declared, further contributing to the hypocrisy of the new Labour government. Labour promised to help average workers and not to focus on the wealthy. They exposed the rectified tax avoidance of Rishi Sunak’s Wife, whose father is worth $5.1 Billion. In some ways, Labour is helping unions, however, they are hurting everybody’s finances due to their increase on almost all types of taxes in their attempt to fill a £20 Billion deficit left by the previous government. It seems that the benefits of being at the top of politics are the gifts you receive, in exchange for the power you hold.
