Between Tuesday Evening and Wednesday morning, riot police were arresting, detaining, and removing violent pro-Palestine protesters who were leading riots.
Columbia University, City College of New York, and University of Los Angeles (UCLA) were the two most violent and primary incidents of police intervention. Columbia University called the police to remove protesters from Hamilton Hall. Hamilton Hall was occupied and barricaded in by Palestine demonstrators on the evening of April 30th.
Riot Police entered the building and cleared Columbia University property in less than two hours. Over 300 people were arrested in Columbia University.
At UCLA, the situation was more violent with pro-Israeli and pro-Palestine protesters assaulting each other. Furthermore, Palestinian protesters were blocking students’ entry into certain areas of the campus. A video went viral where a Jewish student peacefully attempted to get onto campus but was stopped by Palestine protesters.
Despite paying for them, many questions and concerns have been raised by non-protesting students on the classes they missed. They are inquiring whether exams can be delayed by a couple of days, to catch up on missed classes.
Other notable Universities where protesters have been arrested are:
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Texas-Austin, and Florida State University.
What has Joe Biden’s response been?
Joe Biden has not commented on the protests but White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did speak about it. She said the President was being kept up to date on the situation. Joe Biden has continued America’s policy of support to Israel, yet has emphasised restraint in Gaza and allowing for Humanitarian aid to easily get to the Gazans.
